Psychiatric Medical Director, you will be responsible for the provision of medical-psychiatric care of patients within a state operated facility. In this position, you will be responsible for the individuals participating in the development and implementation of medical/clinical policies and guidelines to assure continuous performance improvement in safety, patient care, and outcomes. - Ensure patients are provided with the quality of care consistent with contemporary professional standards.
- Ensure all patient information and notes are documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Notify the Medical Staff Organization and the Hospital administration of any adverse actions taken against the individual by any healthcare facility, state licensure board, drug enforcement administration, or court of law in a malpractice action
- Ensure each patient’s medical condition is assessed, managed and treatment by a licensed physician.
- Ensure medical staff play an active role in the education of patients, families, and staff
- Coordinate care, treatment, and services with other practitioners and hospital personnel, as relevant to care, treatment and services of an individual patient.
- Sign and perform the duties of a collaborative agreement of advance practice RNs for prescriptive authority.
- Serve on selected standing hospital committees and demonstrates active participation, providing input within areas of competence
- Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures for the facility or medical unit.
- Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
- Oversee the administration of psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder
- Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development
- Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures
Requirements
- 5 years of experience working in an inpatient mental health facility.P
- Must have a Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychiatry from a regionally accredited university
- Completion of an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the state of Indiana as issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- The ability to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enables him/her to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, & members of health care teams
- The ability to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets
